Single-player games are not quick to perform well commercially but sometimes, they will beat multiplayer games. Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing action video game released on December 10, 2020. It was developed using Redengine 4 by CD Project Red and published by CD Project. The game received 8 million pre-orders with 74% have requested a digital download. These pre-orders have beat The Witcher 3 which was on top before Cyberpunk. The publisher has sold more than 18 billion units worldwide till April 2022.
The game is divided into 50 levels with easy, medium, hard and very hard difficulty levels. Most professional players have completed all the missions in between 25 to 30 hours of time. Before the update for PS4, the size of the game was 100 GBs but after the update, Cyberpunk 2077 reduced the total game size to 59 Gigabytes.
Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay 2023:
The gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 is similar to Grand Theft Auto where the player will take information about missions. Then the player can perform any action related to gameplay including fighting, firing, driving vehicles, moving in public, battling or shooting with gangsters. Basically, Cyberpunk 2077 falls in the first person and action role-playing video game.
So the player is free to move anywhere inside the mission. Each mission has a unique difficulty level. The face and front interface of the player can be switched including hairs, face, colors, eyes, body type and other modifications. The player character statistics can also be changed between Solo, Techie and NetRunner modes.
For most the things, players can upgrade or purchase gameplay tools like guns and cyber-ware. The player will receive multiple damage levels including Thermal, EMP, Physical and Chemical. However, the open-world environment is divided into 6 areas that can be discovered on foot or by vehicle. There will be general effects upon vehicle accidents, pedestrian crossing and movement, weather effects, day and night shifting and more.
Development of CD Projekt Red
The game was officially designed by Mike Pondsmith who started work on this project in 2012. Cyberpunk 2077 was developed by CD Projekt Red studios which have offices in multiple cities including Warsaw and Krakow. The most important thing is that this game is one of the most expensive games with an average cost of $313 million.
The story of the game was captured from different movies such as Blade Runner, Ghost In the Shell, System Shock and Deus Ex. The game story involves some science fiction, networking, hacking and computer technology. Mike Pondsmith and his team also played an impressive role in the success of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. CD Projekt Red upgraded its RedEngine 3 to RedEngine 4 after 2017. The development involves multiple companies to make it a smooth, fast and very accurate game including Nvidia, QLOC and Jali Research.
In 2017, CDProjekt was rewarded with $7 million from the Polish government to hire and extend the team and expand the features. However, the development was near to publish in 2019 but it was delayed till March 2020 due to Covid-19. The language translations are available in both Polish and English languages. The developer used licensed radio stations that will play original music.
Sales and Awards
Cyberpunk 2077 covers all gaming platforms or devices like PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One and Stadia in its initial release. Later in February 2022, the developer released an update to support PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S devices.
The game has received over 8 million pre-orders covering all devices. These pre-order numbers are even more than in The Witcher 3. The game has sold up to 30 million units till April 2022. The best thing is that after the first 12 hours of release, Steam had 1 million active players. The game received the 2nd highest-selling game in Japan by selling 104,600 copies.
The game sold 13 million units worldwide by December 2020. It includes selling of 10 million digital downloads with adding $609 million in digital sales as of December 2020 that increasing their net worth.
The game won 11 awards and was included as a nominee for 10 awards. Unfortunately, the game won awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020. It is only included as a nomination for later-year game awards.
Cyberpunk 2077 received some mixed feedback but mostly it has positive reviews from gamers. According to Metacritic, it received a 75 meta score with a 6.8 user score for PS5, an 87 meta score with a 6.7 user score on Xbox Series X and an 86 meta score with a 7.0 user score for PC.
On the other side, the publications also gave a mix of reviews but were honored with favorable feedback. The positive side covers PC Gamer gave a 78/100 rating, IGN review score was 9/10 on PC, GameSpot mentioned 7/10 for PC, the Steam review is 7/10, IMDb is 8/10 and Game Informer feedback a 9/10.
The negative feedback includes The Guardian review with a 3/5 star rating and an IGN review with a 4/10 for Xbox One and PS4 devices.
